August 10th, Caribbean Carnival Parade
Virtually every year in Detroit I've been lucky enough to catch the wonderful spectacle of
the Caribbean Carnival. It's always seemed a shame that this parade only marginally enters the Detroit
press's awareness.

July 15th, About Belle Isle
For every park there is a season and this is surely Belle Isle's. Herons, Swans, Signets and Cormorants swim the lakes,
cooks cook-out in every corner, and the weather calls for endless hours of riding.
This is also the season for big events, last month it was the Redbull Air Race, next month the Grand Prix and this
weekend the Centenery running of the Gold Cup races. The advantage of Belle Isle is that as increasingly the parks
along Jefferson (Owen, Henderson, & the two next to Dwight) are surrounded by barriers as pay viewing
locations, Belle Isle continues to be largely free.

| All starts well as the grandstands fill a little (although the numbers appear down since these sites became pay to view) |
| | At low speed the jet boats look as suited to water as my bike |
| | ... but once they get going, they GO!! |
| | ...the racing is quickly head to head ... |
| | ...with only feet seoperating the boats ... |
| But only minutes into Sunday's event the wind picks up as forecast making control difficult |
| And all too quickly a red boat hits the rooster tail of the boat in front and is flipped (everyone OK) bringing the Cenenery running to a sadly premature close |
