October 26th, Upcoming Events
While the weather chills the events around town look to be heating up. Here are three
that look very cool. I'm almost definitely going to almost, but not quite, make some of them.
(1) Exposure Detroit's November 9th Meeting
(2) The Scarab Club Annual Photography Exhibition
(3) The Nov 6th Launch of the 2009 Pontiac Vibe at the State (Fillmore) Theatre

October 22nd, Fire in a Dwelling
While chasing around the backstreets to avoid the blocked off sections of town during the Marathon
I came across the DFD dealing with ongoing eastside burnout. Three or four engines were stretching on
what looked like an abandoned property at the corner of Kirby and Jos Campau. One of the parts of
town that boasts more burned out vacant lots than occupied properties. On the bright side more of this
land on the north and south of East jefferson appears to be being cleared and reused for high quality new homes.

October 21st, The 2007 Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon
An early start this Sunday to grab a few shots of the Marathon...
| |
| General confusion superintended by the DPD always surrounds the start with lost runners milling around and friends trying to find a good spot to watch cam ,lens |
| The wheelchair start generally catches me by surprise cam ,lens |
| The most notable aid to confusion is that it is DARK. The race seemed even darker this year starting about 45 mins before sunrise. cam ,lens |
| The first dark mile or two heads up Michigan perhaps for the last time by Tiger Stadium cam ,lens |
| Corktown as ever put on a rousing show to fully wake everyone cam ,lens |
| Then off to Mexicantown and Grand Boulevard with the bridge getting ever closer. cam ,lens |
| Just about dawn as the main pack stream over into Canada cam ,lens |
| One direction of the bridge and tunnel blocked for the runners cam ,lens |
| About 20 minutes later the front runners reappear from the tunnel heading by Cobo back towards Michigan Av cam ,lens |
| As always the Kenyans ran a strong race, Christopher Kiprotich eventually taking the win cam ,lens |
| But even as the front runners head past the RenCen the 16,000+ field still stream over the bridge. cam ,lens |
| A great mix of professional athletes cam ,lens |
| with a terrific group of race supporters around the course cam ,lens |
| Volunteers and the DPD all helping to make another great event cam ,lens |
